Speaking in Tongues
God has given us the gift to speak in a language we do not know by human means. This is a gift of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 12:10) and therefore of great help to us. Paul said: "Thank God, I speak in tongues more than any of you" (1 Cor 14:18). Through the gift of tongues, the Lord builds us up (1 Cor 14:4), enables us to utter "mysteries in the Spirit" (1 Cor 14:2), and empowers us to thank and praise Him (1 Cor 14:16-17).

The father himself couldn't help free his son without praying for greater faith (Mk 9:24). The greater our faith, the ... More

Pentecost Novena
The Pentecost Novena is the first of all novenas, nine days of prayer. After Jesus' Ascension into heaven, He commanded His disciples to come together in the upper room to devote themselves to constant prayer (Acts 1:14). They prayed for nine days before receiving the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.

" —John 20:22 Many of us reading this reflection are baptized and confirmed Catholics. It was our privilege to sacramentally "receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38). However, since God the Father has blessed us with intellect and free will, we may ... More
